About

My name is Ellie Humphrys

As a Chicago-based Lighting Designer, I've been passionate about theatrical lighting since first discovering the magic of behind-the-scenes work in high school. I graduated with a BFA in Lighting Design from The Theater School at DePaul University and quickly became active in the storefront theater scene where I've worked on world premiere productions, including The Fuck HouseLast Night in Karaoke Town, Detour Guide, Belfast Girls, and many more. Beyond that, I've found joy working on musicals, immersive productions, and children's shows as well. I've found that working on a variety of different types of productions keeps both my design skills and problem-solving skills sharp.

When I'm not working on theater productions, I enjoy spending my time at home spoiling my rescue rabbit.

"Samia Malik’s set places us in an open-air market/cafe, with Ellie Humphrys’ warm lighting palette suggesting both sunny days and starry nights, adding visual delight to the aural textures."
