About

My name is Ellie Humphrys

I'm a Chicago-based Lighting Designer and I've been passionate about theatrical lighting since first discovering the magic of behind-the-scenes work in high school. I graduated with a BFA in Lighting Design from The Theater School at DePaul University and quickly became active in the storefront theater scene where I've worked on world premiere productions, including The Fuck HouseLast Night in Karaoke Town, GatherDetour Guide, Belfast Girls, and many more. I've found joy taking on the unique creative challenges with musicals, immersive productions, and children's shows as well. I've come to appreciate how working across the spectrum of theatrical productions keeps both my design and problem-solving skills sharp.

When I'm not working on theater productions, I enjoy spending my time at home spoiling my rescue rabbit.

"Samia Malik’s set places us in an open-air market/cafe, with Ellie Humphrys’ warm lighting palette suggesting both sunny days and starry nights, adding visual delight to the aural textures."
